Day 01: Arrival at Bole International airport
Up on arrival in Addis Ababa, you will be met by Lonely Ethiopia Tours representative and be taken you to your reserved hotel. Depending on your arrival time, we have various sightseeing options.
- National museum which among other exhibits the 3.5 million year old bone of Lucy.
- Trinity Cathedral this is a burial place of members of the imperial family and noted patriots.
- St. George cathedral where paintings by the famous Ethiopian artist Afework Tekle and other ecclesiastical wealth and cultural heritages of the past are displayed.
- Mount Entoto with the best views over the capital
- Merkato the largest open-air market in Africa.

Day 02: Drive Addis Ababa – Bahir Dar (552km)
Early in the morning, depart north to Bahr Dar via Debre Markos. On the way visit the Portuguese Bridge, said to have been the first bridge in Ethiopia. Afterwards, you will pass through he spectacular Blue Nile Gorge. The gorge extends nearly 400km and reaches depth up to 1500m.

Day 03: Bahir Dar
In the morning, take a boat trip on Lake Tana to visit the island monasteries, such as on the Zege Peninsula (Azwa Mariam and Ura Kidane Mihret) and Kibran Gabriel (not allowed for women), and the source of Blue Bile River. In the afternoon, drive out to the Blue Nile Falls for a short hike in the area. Finish the day with the sunset over the lake.

Day 04: Drive Bahir Dar – Gondar (180km)
In the morning, continue north to Gondar. The four-hour drive will take you through rural villages, offering wonderful insight in to the Amhara village. After check in to your hotel, explore the sites of Gondar including a visit to thee Royal Enclosure, with six castles and several other buildings. Additionally, visit the Fasiledes pool, still used for Timkat celebrations today, and Debre Birhan Selassie church, with the most famous ceiling in Ethiopia.

Day 05: Drive Gondar – Lalibela (352km)
In the morning, proceed driving to Lalibela via Woreta, passing through Amhara village. You will have stunning views of the Guna Mountains as you travel through this dramatic landscape.

Day 06: Lalibela
After breakfast, start your tour of the rock-hewn churches of Lalibela, visiting the north-western cluster of churches- Bet Medhane Alem, Bet Mariam, Bet Meskel, Bet Danagel, Bet Michael, Bet Golgotha (entry not permitted for women). After lunch, you will have an excursion trip to the Asheton Mariam monastery (3200m above sea level) from where you will enjoy spectacular panoramic views over the beautiful surroundings.

Day 07: Lalibela
In the morning, you will visit the south-eastern cluster of churches of Lalibela- Bet Gabriel-Rufael, Bet Merkorios, Bet Amanuel, Bet Abba Libanos,. Finally, you will visit the most famous of the churches, Bet Giyorgis, constructed in honour of the patron saint Ethiopia-Saint George. Afternoon, visit the nearby monastery of Na’akuto La’ab, set on the side of a cliff.

Day 08: Fly Lalibela – Axum
After breakfast, you will fly to Axum. The city of Axum includes; Stelae Obelicks, the largest single piece of stone erected by human beings anywhere in the world. Castles of former monarchs, Mariam Tsion Church which is built on the site of Ethiopia’s first church, the palace of Queen of Sheba, the inscriptions king Ezana’s and the tombs of King Kaleb and Gebre Meskel.

Day 09: Fly Axum – Addis Ababa – Departure
After breakfast, you have the option to visit the temples of Yeha. The way passes through Adwa, where the famous battle between Ethiopians and Italians took place. Yeha was a pre-axumite settlement and is famous for its well preserved stone temple with 12m high walls estimated to be 2500 years old. Afternoon, you will fly back to Addis Ababa. As per your interest, there are various sightseeing and shopping opportunities. In the evening you will be invited to a memorable farewell dinner in one od Addis Ababa’s traditional restaurants with cultural songs, dances and traditional food and drinks. You will then be transferred to airport for your flight back to home.
